Walk ins Welcome

Here's some pictures from a film I've been working on called "Walk ins Welcome" for M.C.T.C.

Suburban Cowboy at Caravan du Nord!

Yippee Yi Yay! This went down last Friday night. It was my family band "Full Circle" followed by "The Cactus Blossoms" then Charlie Parr. What a bill! So grateful to be part of it. Like the old time song goes "Precious memories, how they linger."

Well, this has nothing to do with acting (Or does it?) but I am playing a gig with my family band "Full Circle" at The Paramount Theatre in Austin along with "The Cactus Blossoms" and Charlie Parr. So put that in your pipe and smoke it! In the meantime, I am still working on a play that centers around Apollo and a rewrite of the Greek tragedy "Medea." It's way back in my head right now. Luigi Pirandello is a big influence and possibly The Italian Renaissance. I haven't decided yet. I've been thing it would be fun to incorporate Commedia del Arte and masks but not sure how. It's just sitting in my head. I have written a lot but not much lately. it would have more than one person which is a big step for mister "don't trust anyone with your work." In just a few minutes I'm going to teach a tennis class at The Sabes JCC which oddly has made its way into my play. I know, I'm questioning it myself but I can put no limits on what I want to put out there. The class is kind of a play in itself and I play a very animated stock character who talks way more than usual. Perhaps I'm Arlecchino.

Well, I had the opportunity to do a commercial for City Lake Bank. It was very fun. I had the part of "Hero Customer." It was for a bank in Indiana, so not too likely it will be shown around here. Here's a few pictures.

What is an Actor?

What is an actor? I confess that I have no idea. Perhaps an actor is only as good as their last audition. Or the one that they're preparing for. An actor needs to love themselves because they cannot depend on anyone else's love even though it's set up for them to receive much adulation by having people see them and applaud. They applause is nice but the next day the actor is at the grocery store like everyone else. What aisle is this in? There is no glamour. There are no press junkets. There is no self importance. There is no vanity. There is love. Not false love.

Okat, I'll try this again. I had started to write a blog then it magically disappeared! I was just doing some wrap up thoughts on The MN Fringe festival which was a personal success but a box office disaster. I had to cancel one show because no one showed up. That was a good exercise in vanity. Oh well. Nobody probably understood the show except me. In fact I had some reviews in which people were confused. I tried to make it as easy to understand but perhaps failed in that endeavor. The show was definitely unusual in its writing and execution which made it fringe worthy. I stand by my vision which paid homage to Plato, Greek Mythology, The Bible, Elvis, Bill Monroe and many others. There may be future productions but have not really figured that out yet.

JESUS CHRIST EX MACHINA

It's finally happening! JESUS CHRIST EX MACHINA at the 2013 Mn Fringe Festival! Here's the synopsis! Lost in a labyrinth and about to be devoured by a Minotaur, Theseus has only one shot at survival. But is he willing to do what God asks him? Get your tickets! www.fringefestival.org Somebody dropped out this morning and I got the slot! It's going to be great! Bring like 5 friends! I need to at least break even! Or just bring yourself. It's theatre! Nobody's making any money except Hugh Jackman and Ian McKellan. Meryl Streep when she feels like it. The rest of us are just doing it because we have to. Although famous actors have to as well I'm sure. I'm so tired. Does this blog make any sense? Who cares! I'M IN THE FRINGE!
